Hi,

I don't really understand (technical issues) why these don't work in synch, but was wondering if you think the mvp will ever play these, or will we always be stuck converting to mpeg audio first ? I mean I just found pressing menu while playing allows you to select the audio and subtitles, but all three end up out of sync Smile

I am just wondering whether to look at buying a different media player, one that can play these without modification (but they are all pricey - and then I would have to replace 4 of them and then consider should I get the HD versions for future proofing and then the price goes up more ..... Rolleyes !!!)

If you want guarantees than you should definitely look elsewhere. All the members of the mvpmc project do this as a hobby largely based on their needs. There are challenges to working in this environment though, especially the lack of documentation. I started emulation mode because I thought it would be fun and it has been, with the added bonus of meeting some of the good people in this community who helped get it to where it is now. AC3 will continue to be worked on but I must say I lost a lost of interest when my cable co killed most clear QAM channels.

Subtitle support in emulation mode is really a server issue. If you are talking about getting more in mvpmc native mode then I'd take it to the mvpmc mailing list and explain your requirements. Again most people actively coding on the project work with English video so it would probably take someone joining the program with the need to push that forward.

Regarding media extenders you should do some research on avsforum and mpcclub to see what might your needs. Many of these devices are perfect, I own a few and AC3 sync isn't perfect either.

Oh no, not guarantees, it was a "do you think it might be possible" - perhaps there are mvp limitations. And I fully understand its off your own back type work - it is appreciated (My MVPs now boot up in the mvpmc mode). I did at one time attempt to work briefly on the mvpmc with great plans - but time killed any attempt to do any thing useful - other than compile it and play around. Then you guys drop in emulation mode Big Grin. I play dvds direct via file system, and recording via emulation.

Sorry I didn't mean emulation mode, I meant in playing VOBs. What I want it to rip the dvd and play that. Having subtitles would be icing on the cake.

I didn't realise, I thought I saw some brief comment, but not much beyond that. I just assumed they worked wonderfully. It was the Netgear HD ev8000 (I think) that was of interest. I'll have to take a closer look.

Every so often I try and mess around with a working system and start to wonder "could this work", "what if that". At the moment, trying to put DVDs onto the computer and its a two stage process, which works, And then I wonder do I really need to lose the subtitles (handy in english with kids) and the ac3 part (in case in the future I have a device which could play it)

Ok then AC3 sync is definitely possible in fact the recent code for 0.3.4 is a model for AC3.

I didn't even know that VOB subtitles were out of sync. These are graphics that are embedded in the VOB stream so they can't be that far off, but I guess it is a question of buffering. I still think that if you want help with this you ask the mvpmc mailing list, I don't use VOBs. If you are interested in the native mode someone added a patch which with the help of the VLC telnet interface permits DVD iso playback too. Without a resume I think it has limited appeal, but it shows that work is progressing.
