Hi Just wondering if it is possibly within moviewiz to password protect folders, I`m planning on putting MVP`s in the kids bedrooms and I dont want them to be able to view 12+ films etc, So if there a way to only allow them to view films in a folder (Kids folder) and password protect the folder with 12+ films in.

Thanks

Pete

At this point, MovieWiz does not do folders, the db simply has specific entries. Each entry (movie) can be assigned one (or more) Categories. I suppose it would be possible to protect categories with a password. Would that work for you?

I am working on adding password protection on categories and could use some help on the user interface.

When in MovieWiz, should the password prompt be displayed when:
  • The plugin is activated. It is requested once per MovieWiz session (or maybe there could be a timeout value, ie only prompts 1 every 15 minutes..). Any movies in a protected category are filtered from the list(s), for example, a movie could be in two categories, only one is protected, it would not show in either category if password has not been supplied.
  • When attempting to play the movie. All movies in all categories will be visible in the plugin. It is only at the time the user attempts to Play the movie that they are prompted for a password IF the movie belongs in a password protected category.
Should the Movie Details also be protected?

I don't use MovieWiz (nor do I need password protection on any of my plugins) but I thought I'd throw some ideas into the arena.

@JavaWiz - if you're going to provide this sort of facility then you really need to provide the equivalent of a nested discretionary access control system.

Example:

Password1 - Access to anything below 12+
Password2 - Access to anything below 15+ etc.

WRT default view - allowing MovieWiz to be started without a password but with minimal content shown (universal viewing) would mean the youngest of children wouldn't need to do anything to get to their favourite films etc. The older children and adults could maybe use a button to enter a password to view their category level.

Cheers,
Brian
