This is because the new/improved search only works with the SQLite DB. You will need to run the upgrade to convert your current Access based database to use the newer (18 months at least) SQLite database.

Upgrade is easy....just run the ChangeDatbase.exe file in the gbvr directory.

Since 1.1.5 I had an upgrade error about the database, couldn't fix it, but this finally did the trick.
Searching is ok now.
