I don't know if something like this already exists - indeed may be its an ideal task for a plugin.
It would be nice if, before making config changes, a backup could be made of existings ones that could be selectively reverted to at some future point.
Shouldn't be too difficult I would have thought - but extremely useful and powerful.
... and it would be yet another thing the competition doesn't appear to have.
