Hah!

Spoke too soon.

Altering the setting for the Compro alters it for ALL my sources. The others aren't so happy when this is set, so I get hangs and booted back to the main menu without the source starting. I haven't really got a consistent handle on what is going on yet, so I will report back. However, it really does seem to sort out the two Compro problems, yet makes the rest of the system practically unusable!!

Yes, I noticed that the Advanced BDA/PMT CRC errors setting was enabled on my other tuner - I'd assumed that it was set anyway but your comment suggests that it becomes a global parameter. However, everything else seems to work fine...so far.

What rubbish I do talk! The problem was that (for some reason so far unfathomable) that the tuning for the Compro Videomate was totally out. Some channels were mistuned, others not tuned to anything -= hence the zero-length recordings.

What I can't quite figure is how that happened: it was tuned carefully, one channel at a time, in the usual manner. Hope I don't have a scrambled database. Ho-hum...
