Fix VTS Sectors Failed could not find VIDEO_TS.IFO file

I have read about this problem before in the forum but an answer has never been reached for it.
I have tried various combinations and patience to try and get it to work, all to no avail, everytime i try to burn a dvd i get the error

Reason: could not find VIDEO_TS.IFO file

I have tried reinstalling dvd author, various versions of burndvdx2 over the last three releases of gbpvr. All of the required files are there, it just refuses to work.

Has anyone else who has had this problem managed to find the work round, it's baffling me and is bubbling up to niggle me again to get it sorted.

It would complete the media centre experience for the other half.

Any help, suggestions or comments would be really appreciated.

Although DVD author is reported to possibly have this trouble, it typically is caused by trouble with the input file time stamps. Post the ffmpeg.log in the temp\burndvd dir (or wherever you set the temp dir).

I am using a wintv nova t s500 as my capture card

I don't curently have the ffmpeg package installed, is that needed to run this properly? Are you saying that there is an option with ffmpeg to force where the log file goes. I have left most of the installation at default.

Sorry for perhaps asking dumb questions but it's been a high learning curve the last six months with the media centre, some of this is all quite new to me.

Not comskip since it doesn't mess with the file. The nova-T is likely writing messed up timestamps. Here is a link to another poster that is having the same problem with the same card.

The ffmpeg.log is created in the <temp>\burndvd dir after you create the DVD. The <temp> dir is what you configured with the config app. the default is c:\temp. Post that log file.
With the other poster, we have tried quite a few different ways to fix the timestamps but nothing seems to be foolproof.

Anyway post the log and we can go from there.

OK, thanks for the reply, interesting as i did get it to work once, when i very first built the system, in effect a beta build, to see what it was like. Since then its refused.

I can host a file as i have my own ftp server, downside is that uploading at 512kbs its going to take a while for you to download it. I will see if i can do a small 10min recording, try and burn it and could then post that, should not be too big then. I would also be happy to mail you a dvd with an mpeg file on that if needed, if it would help you sort out whats happening. You can also pm me your address.

The log shows the file has a timestamp problem.

To me it's a problem with ffmpeg not generating new timestamps but that's out of my hands to fix it. The command line uses genpts which should handle that problem.

I've had some luck with running the mpg through retime, but that doesn't always work.

Basically what we have found is if the non-monotone timestamp error is fixed, it will create a DVD. The trouble is we haven't found a reliable way to do this. Sub may have some better ideas on this. We can ping him on this when he gets back.

You don't have to waste burning DVD's, you can always create an iso as a test.
I would experiment around with various tools to retime the file before running it through burndvdx2.

If you can create a small couple minute file that exhibits the trouble let me know and I'll see if I can get anywhere with it.

you could download a trial of videoredo which has a quickstreamfix option to create a new file with correct timestamps.

I recently encountered the 'Fix VTS Sectors Failed' problem. Previously it had worked fine. The difference was the ones that worked I edited the start time (set the start time to about 2mins later) using the Edit Tool and the ones that did'nt work had no editing. Don't know if this was a coincedence but it may be worth a try.
