Outdoing myself is not one thing I am worried about at all for three reasons.....

1 I am pretty decent with a computer, just not familiar with all of the things possible concerning pvr clients and blasting (Thank you very much for the excellent explanation Flyswatta) but that of course changes with speaking to good people like yourselves.

2 and this is the big one, I always have the support of good people on here...sorry to lay it on thick, but this really is one of the best forum communities I frequent.

3 my buddy's expectations are relatively low, if we HAVE TO do all SD, he will still be very happy, anything above that is icing on the cake, hence all my questions. The goal is to aim high....if I can get close, he will be very happy.

BTW, is U-verse any good? I have timewarner and I have debated switching to various things.

U-Verse is okay. It has a very M$crosofty feel too it - but it's fairly easy to use. I just got the 200 channel package with the HD add on and it has around 20 HD channels, which is nice. One big difference is that you have to think in terms of 'streams' - you have 4 streams in to the house 2 HD, 2 SD. The DVR can record up to 4 streams at once, of course this renders the STBs useless as they all go to a screen that says it's in use.

The real advantage will be if they ever get the Whole House DVR (WHDVR) going - meaning playback from the DVR on any STB. That feature would blow away any of the competition, IMHO. Of course, they're over a year behind on the delivery date, so I'm not holding my breath.

Here's probably the best write up I've ever read about u-verse - it's on a satellite forum and the guy is pretty geeky, so he's brutally honest (and includes lots of pictures/screenshots of the menus, etc). Bear in mind that it was over year ago, so it's when it was first coming out and experiencing growing pains... http://www.satelliteguys.us/iptv-discuss...verse.html
