I was looking at Circuit City's web site, and noticed they have the Hauppauge Win TV HVR-1600 (1178) for sale in their outlet for $28.96US. However, they don't have it available for shipping, and it's not in stock at any of the stores near me, so I looked further down the page, and see they are selling the Win TV HVR-1600(1199) for $99.99US. Apart from the warranty period, which is twice as long for the (1199), the price, and the availability, I can't see any difference between them. Am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure I have the old stock number (got mine at cc 8 months ago, for $30-$40) - everything seems to work fine, tunes clear QAM/HD fine, etc...

Hi new member here. Iam building my first PVR and have been emailing Hauppauge tech support for the last week about there cards and just emailed and got an answer about the exact same question your asking. So here is Hauppauge response about the circuitcity 28 dollar card. My question also was about the other model number WINTV-HVR1600 cards and which ones work with windows Vista Media center and what remotes come with the differant cards. Funny part is the card the 1101 costs more than the Kit version, were there suposed to be the same card but no remote included, go figure.

Answer below:
The WINTV-HVR1600 is available as a non-media center unit and Media Center unit.

The non-media center units are model # 1178 and 1199 these units are the same. Model #1178 is Hauppauge Computer Works

Model# and comes in Hauppauge Computer Works box and 1199 is Circuit City model# and comes in a Circuit City box.

They both come with Hauppauge Computer Works basic remote control which is not a media center remote. From what I know

Hauppauge’s remote can do some media center functions but not all and if you are going to be operating the tuner card with a set top box then you need a Media Center remote and the kit. The Media Center remote kit is available on the Media Center version on the HVR1600 called WINTV-HVR1600MC kit Model# 1183 or you if you just need the Media Center board only that is WINTV-HVR1600MC board only model# 1101. Just so you know that a non media center board like the WINTV-HVR1600 model# 1178 or 1199 can be use with media center. You will probably have to down load the latest Media Center drivers and get the Media Center

Remote control kit.
