Total newbee here.
Buildning a PVR for the first time. Have finnaly picked out what equipment i will be using.
P4 3.0, 2 gig ram, Geforce 6200 has svideo & composite, probably use the Svideo out, soundcard is older Soundblaster live card. Two Hauppauge WINTVHVR1600 Model#1183 that come with MCE remotes (want to record 2 shows at same time). Havent yet got all the parts so its not built yet. Windows XP pro, can get Vista Ultamite if needed.

Will be useing standard analog Cable TV (no box, Time Warner cable) How do i get a programming guide thats free? I have seen a program called MSN_XMLscraper and also GrabberGuidexmltv. Do i need any of these to get a programming guide for analog TV shows? I dont have any digital channels just analog cable TV, no box just a cable coming out of the wall. Oh yea iam in the USA if that makes a differance

If i need one of those scraper programs i just install one of those and when setting up GBPVR i just tell it to use the scraper program for the EPG during setup.

One other thing,, about the remote control. If i understand it correctly the MCE remote that comes with the with Hauppauge cards only work for basic controls? What controls are considered basic?

Most users in the north america use the Schedules Direct service. Another popular option is mc2xml from http://mc2xml.110mb.com/ (free, but legally a bit gray).

To be honest, I cant really remember - its been such a long time since I've used this remote. I think most things work.

The Hauppauge 1062 MCE remote doesn't function too well on it's own. The volume, channel, etc. doesn't work but the up/down/left/right does so you can turn the volume up and down and change channels. LM Remote Keymap is easy to configure and makes this remote mostly functional. Do a search of the forums as I've posted a bit about those remotes in the last couple weeks.

This didnt match up with my memories of this remote, so I found my Hauppauge MCE remote and dusted it off to give it a try. The channel and volume keys worked just fine for me. I didnt any third party key mapping software.

When i get my cards and get this thing going i will post back here to say what works and what doesnt on the remote. Not sure what exact modle number the remote is but its the one that comes with the Hauppauge WINTVHVR1600 Model#1183 cards. Supposed to be MCE remote. I hope most functions work without another program needed. I guess i will see soon as i will have all the parts to complete this PVR by thursday. Should have it running by weekend.

Thanks Sub:
I got that MC2xml program and with the instructions on that web site for use with the GBPVR program it doesnt look to difficult to get that working. Big Grin

After the fall of zap2it, I tried every xml scraper and EPG updater I could find, settled on zap2xml as the easiest to set up and use.
You can never have enough tuners!

Well i have my pvr up and running , just wanted to say the remote control that comes with the Hauppauge WINTVHVR1600 Model#1183 seems to have alot of control in the GBPVR program. Still trying nto figure out the cryptic little pictures on the remote control itself so i know what each button does but it seems to have full control. Big Grin
