this post from there sums it up for what im getting at
RE: Improvements to NMT client for GBPVR
Dear Martin, are you saying this clip shows an actual PCH?
I thought you were only making a presentation of what could potentially be implemented on an PCH.
All of this, fast channel switches, OSD, mono bypassing, audio while navigating menus - you actually implemented all of this in your mvpmcx2 client? I mean, this is like alien technology!
What exactly do you mean hard coded to your system?

It is definitively a live capture, but they don't realise that it is possible partly because no one really understands emulation mode and the inherent advantages in having a server do much of the work. Also sub has done a great job making it respond as well as it does, I figured that the new Sage box would be better but the screen shots so far aren't that compelling http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread....ostcount=1

@Chris, I don't see that post as entirely positive, I've tried to "recruit" people to mvpmc to help with the project (there is a lot to do which is why I have given up trying to answer posts here that aren't related to mvpmc) and it often just boils down to people wanting the source code once it is working product for their own purposes. This isn't a complaint, it takes a lot of work to do common development.

I guess it would be nice to have more support from syabas, Like eventually including MVPMC in the NMT apps like casgle was. Although this is a little bit away from the Diskless option for the NMT Platform. What I wish they would do in future hardware revisions is to add one internal USB Port in which a thumb drive could be installed with the NMT Apps and any other User apps that may be needed for those who don't need a hard drive.

But that aside, You and Sub have done a great job with supporting the NMT platform.

Syabas support really isn't an issue any longer, but I am way behind were I could have been if things had worked out differently. My model will continue to be based on not requiring a hard disk, (the NMT mvpmc runs from a share just fine) since I have no need for any of the Syabas apps.

I probably could get mvpmcx2 included as an app like Casgle if I wanted, but I don't.

Martin, I just want to thank you for all of your work on MVPMCX2, I realize that you will still be working on it, but thanks are still in order Smile

(Raises Hand) Yeah I'm one of them. I do want to say that I never wanted to appear unappreciative of your efforts. You're a pioneer and a trendsetter. The only way that you have achieved what you have is through others getting on board and working with you. And I did want to be part of that... Alas, time and patience were not available...

Yes, comskip is the very and mostly only reason I started using GB-PVR. It's a way of life. Anyone else that I've converted, when asked if they could do without comksip for a while, while things are getting sorted with the PCH said, "Are you serious?". (maybe I should finally donate to erik :o )

That said, I am seriously looking at it now. Sure I wasn't one of the people who road out west with you into uncharted territory, but I will be one of the guys erecting the bronze statue in the town centre...

i see it as you are one of the very few rays of light in an otherwise dark world of hardware..
ever notice the weakest part of a tivo? cable boxes, dvdplayers, 'media extenders'? the software...
while they are potentially extremely useful pieces of hardware, for almost 20 years they have suffered from the Worst programming ever..looking more like linux beginners put the software together for such nice hardware...blue-green over simplified dialogs with a block font, and still slow!

then i saw what you were doing with the MVP... Sweet functionality...that i'd actually get use from... Daily..Smile too cool... video cards were such a mess back then, this was the only real alternative... and it delivered...
then came the nmt...

now there are a few alternatives out there, but none as user-friendly on a feature basis,[MCE] they usually never get the pvr workflow/features right, or then have to change the experience for the extender so much it's nowhere near same...
and as the big boys go, it's' still the most reasonably priced..[LInksys,etc] for it's capabilities..
and i do have to say they are steadily working to improve the firmwares from syabas side, so longevity looks good so far...slow but steady..

still so much potential, yet what you've already done is monumental...Wink
without your imaginative work, it'd be nothing more than a little used dvd player in my home...
i actually bought it so i could use a component-only tv i have for HD...without it, i'd be stuck with sd forever..lol [not many alternatives out there due to HDCP etc]
[and sometimes use it to transport shows to friends' house to play]
i even learned a lot about Linux by using it...fun to explore when i have the time..

i just know you are creating something useful where there was very little..
compared to the results from corporations with staffs of fulltime programmers, it's nothing less than amazing what you've accomplished..
and very much appreciated..

Gosh and my.

I may be not up to standard of technical input and loads of words like others but thought I would say something.

Martin, I may not always reply to your posts BUT I read them, all of them.

The work you have done firstly with MVP and MVPMC was fantastic. I would add that the only reason I haven't gone PCH is:

a) I don't have an output device capable of displaying it in it's true glory.

In fact there is no b) That is why I didn't invest in a PCH.

But I am bothered. You should of course go where your heart takes you but those other Forums you talked about, where people 'BIG' everything up and talk alot about some, IMHO, talky talky stuff well that's them, having read your posts for over 2 years I don't think it is you :-)

Just to make sure I never read this as an obituary just someone frustrated with soooo much work put in and what may sometime seem no feedback.

As per previous post (I think) no feedback can mean it WORKS!

Cheers to you and Sub

mvallevand Wrote:On the other hand here, many users generally ignore the PCH as a solution, or ultimately want a PC solution or worse (at least for me) ask for some other solution. I'm guessing the opinion is the PCH is too expensive, many of you want a really cheap solution (since if you don't need HD or BluRay 1080p. quality audio etc it is a luxury) or you want a much better solution. I think I really misunderstood the value of comskip, every time I think I have made progress, it is always "What about comskip?"
Unlike many of the other GBPVR users, I do not have a dedicated PC as a platform for the program. I have two WinTV capture cards in my only PC which I use all day long for all the things a PC does (programming, word processing, Internet surfing, etc.). I started out with an MVP for playback onto a television in another room (using a Homeplug network). With the capture cards saving programs onto disk with virtually no load on the PC and the MVP being able to play back the MPG files with no burden on the PC, I have a PVR without the expense and noise in the rooms where I watch television. I have a utility called HDDLED that I always run which shows disk activity on individual disk drives. Many times when I am working on hte PC I am not even aware that a program is being recorded unless I glance at the HDDLED output.

I added a PCH not (yet) for HD, but because it could play back AVI format files without any conversion by the PC. I don't want to get into transcoding any of these files because I already have my PC scheduled for many processor intensive tasks during the overnight hours (downloading schedules and running UltraXMLTV Enhancer, defragging the files on the dedicated GBPVR disk, defragging the System drive, downloading schedules for use on with my PDA).
