I just got BBC HD setup using CoreAVC and it looks ok, I assumed that because I'm using XP and EVR that Hardware accel wouldn't work so I'm getting 70% cpu, which isn't really a problem.

On searching the forum on another topic I see some suggestions that HA+EVR is possible with some filters.

Does anyone have a definative answer?

Is it possible to have HA + EVR + XP + H.264?

If so which decoders?

Also do any of the hookey Directx 10 for XP releases give us any hope of DXVA2 on XP?

Thanks

No, I dont think so. I'm fairly sure you'll only get H.264 acceleration with EVR on Vista.

yes it can...definitively..i'm using both ati decoder and ffdshow with h264 and both show full accell,[ less than 15% cpu] in EVR mode in XP playing a blu-ray...Smile

i noticed one strange thing tho, the resume prompt wasn't showing up, just blank screen...
when i hit enter to answer yes to that prompt i couldn't see, it resumed from last play pos.

and also had to run it on 'primary' monitor as it won't give anything but black screen on secondary monitor...with both codecs...

this is on a HD3450 with 8.11 driver i believe...xppro sp2...

just got an AGP HD3450 and it works as good as the pciex one does...Big Grin just have to build your own driver...
so yes, can confirm it...and vc1 should be same..

I didnt know there was any hardware acceleration capabilities in ffdshow? I thought it was software only.

Can ou claify, are you sayig?

1. your using an ati h.264 decoder (how?) wth fdshow post processing

or

2. you can use either ati or ffdshow h.264 decoders and no post processing and either when chosen use HA?

3. other?

Presuably whicher is the case this is not DXVA2 offloading because this is a Vista DX10 thing, so it must be something else??

meant to say ati avivo works for mpeg2 in evr fine, as well as ffdshow...

ffdshow does do hardware deinterlace, just not hardware decode...and deinterlacing is 90% of the battle usually...so decoding mpeg2 isn't a big deal...
but h.264 is a different story, it gets about 70% cpu more than mpchc one that has full decode and deinterlacing..

so i just did some testing and checked graph after to be sure what codec was in use...

i've noticed that it doesn't show osd in dxva mode in evr with mpchc decoder...Sad in vmr9fse it does show osd and overlays..
MPCHC video decoder is only one i've gotten to work with full accell so far in evr..

easily checkable on dxvachecker as it will show the decoders used and available as well as deinterlacers...
Cyberlink codec locks up in evr mode on xp..[black screen]

cyberlink, mpchc, and ffdshow work well in vmr9fse...
only ffdshow has high cpu in vmr9, same as in evr mode..

well, turns out that even MPCHC codec was CHEATING! it inserted it's own vmr9 renderer into the graph alongside the evr one which it didn't use...

so scratch that, no accell in evr for 264...mpeg2 no problem tho...

Ahh, I think it was a post from you in a thread a while back that seeded my thought that perhaps HA+EVR+XP was possible.

So I think we can say NO.
