Hey,

I was wondering if the decoding issues ahev been sorted with ATI yet?

I currently run a 8600GT, and it works fine - but it's really noisy.
I have a fanless HD3450 in a box somewhere, adn was wondering if it was worth swapping out?

(In particular, FreeviewHD decoding, I had problems with C4 and some SD channels)

the latest drivers are pretty good, they were broken for so long...but now they even included the accelerated gpu transcoding they promised years back..Smile

i tried the newest [9.7] drivers and they are preforming rather well on both 3xxx and 4xxx's
[finally!] i think this is the first driver with the gpu transcode so looks like another total rewrite..
my 3450 still works great with 8.11 tho...i can't really tell difference between it and a 4650 i just got...[PQ wise] and all the codecs seem to be working as expected..

i don't know about freeview, but they do h.264 fine with cyberlink decoders..[i use pdvd v7]
sd problems? never had any with ati cards..evne my old 7000 does fine there..
but i expect that's h264 sd?

yeah, it was on green blocks on some channels which were SD h264.
I guess I cn just give it a shot - only takes 10 minsutes to install a card & drivers.

So, I tried this card, it still ran nice & cool - and will do 1080p - but has a bit of tearing on it. Tried VMR FSE, and all the mpeg decoding was broken.

Oh well, back to my noisy card - or find a fanless mod for it.

EDIT: Looking at the card it's only a 64bit memory interface -would this cause tearing on the signal?

The major benefit of the 3450 is the DXVA2 accelleration when using EVR on Vista and Win7. I don't think DXVA2 works with XP (I haven't tested it though). If you were running Vista/Win7, you should have no tearing at all with that card.

I've got a 3450 lying around somewhere that I can try to throw in an XP machine and test but it will probably be weekend before I can get to it.
