As sub says, there is no functionality in GBPVR for renaming channels. It's not clear to me why you want to rename, but if you just want a different name displayed when using the guide, you can use SQLiteSpy to easily change the name. In gbppvr.db3 the CHANNEL table has a column "name" and a column "display_name." Just change the latter to anything you want. The "name" must match how your EPG identifies the channel, but the "display_name" can be anything. I've occasionally used it to identify the sources the channel is available on and/or the transponder/frequency for multirec purposes.

I will post the logs when I get home tonight. A simple cheap Freeiew receiver can receive the channels but gives sound only as it is an MPEG2 only STB so there is definitely a signal getting through, but no MPEG4 compatible program I have used on the PC seems to pick it up.

I wanted to rename the channels as I have many duplicates because I am receiving them through satellite and digital terrestrial. It would be easier to identify them and have them set up for recording purposes as I only have 1 tuner for each source.

The tuner in your Freeview box may be better than the tuner in your PC, so this doesnt necessarily rule out the signal being too poor for the PC tuner.

Maybe try running this command line utility to scan http://nate.dynalias.net/dev/scanchannelsbda.rails. It'll be useful to see if it is able to lock on to these missing channels.

If you receive the same channel through both satellite and digital terrestrial, then look to your EPG(s) for the two sources. If you have a single EPG that you use for both, this discussion is moot - the "name" of the channel comes from the EPG. (You can change the "display_name," but it doesn't sound like that's what you want.)

If you have a separate EPG for each source, then the "name" of a channel for that source comes from the EPG for that source. If the "name" for a channel is the same in both EPG's, then GBPVR will see this as a single channel available from two sources. Only one channel will show up in the Guide. That's good if you want GBPVR to automatically roll over to your second source if the first source is busy recording something else.

If the name for a channel is different in the two EPGs, then this channel will be treated as two different channels, and GBPVR will never "roll over." (Most people think this is bad.) GBPVR's Guide will show two different channels. The display_names of the channels will be different, but to keep track of which source a channel comes from, you can change the display_name to also list the source name.

If you want the second behavior (two channels show up in the Guide- one for each source), but your two EPGs have the same name for this channel, (or vice-a-versa) then you need to change the name in the EPG before GBPVR gets it. mc2xml provides this capability. Another way to do this is to use sed.
