Let me start off by saying that I have been very pleased with all the wiz plugins and utilities I've gotten to date. Even despite the incredibly long delays, I like movie wizard a lot. I just know my wife is gonna quack about it taking forever to start up.

I searched the forums as I futzed around with it yesterday, and didn't see any similar problems.

Any how, the symptoms:
It typically takes over a minute to start the movie wizard gui from within config, standalone, or to initialize the plugin from within pvrx2.

When in the configuration applet (either stand-alone, or from within gb-pvr's plugin config, it takes about a minute of time each time I click onto the manage content tab from any other tab.

When I delete a record out of the database using the manage content tab, it takes about a minute for it to get back to me.

Finally, I'm not sure if this is related, but when I do a information lookup, and I pick alternatives, if I don't pick and alternative and I hit cancel, the applet crashes. But it gives me the option to save my changes as it goes down.

I have less than 150 records in the database. I am storing the images in the database.

Any suggestions or questions?

If you could post your:
  • config.exe.log after running config and opening the MovieWiz manager
  • pvrx2.exe.log file after running pvrx2 and selecting MovieWiz

I'll take a look. With only 150 rows in the db it shouldn't take that long.

What kind of hardware (processor speed, memory) are you using?

XP Pro SP2.
Intel Core2 CPU 4400@2ghz.
Says I have 1 gig of ram installed, but I swear I put in 2 or 3. That might be the problem.

Just in case, I have attached the files you requested.

Thanks for your help!

Well your machine specs look reasonable. Memory might be tight depending on what else may be running.

Your db is on drive e:. Is that a network drive, or local to the box?
Code:
2009-09-27 19:52:24.031 VERBOSE [1] MovieWizCore:       Constructor-             Database assigned          : E:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\plugins\MovieWiz\MovieWiz.db3

It looks like it took just under 1 minute to load your 142 entries. That seems long for that many entries.
Code:
2009-09-27 19:53:22.046 VERBOSE [1] MovieWiz:           GetMovieEntriesArrayList()- Sorted by: TITLE**ELAPSED: 00:00:57.9375000  142 entries returned.

I have 179 entries in my db, it takes < 3 seconds to load.

Code:
2009-09-27 22:31:34.937 VERBOSE [1] MovieWiz:           GetMovieEntriesArrayList()- Sorted by: TITLE**ELAPSED: 00:00:02.6562500  179 entries returned.

If you'd like to email me your db, I can load on my system and see if it loads the same.

E: is local to the box.

The db3 file is about 32 mb (thats after vacuuming). It may shrink a little if aggressively compressed. Do you have an email account that can take a file that size?

This machine is a dedicated htpc. It runs pretty bare. The biggest background resource hog is kaspersky AV, and thats something I will live with. The machine plays 720p blueray discs just fine, so I am baffled by the minute load time with a 32 mb file.

I'm going to try unloading Kaspersky from memory, and see if that resolves the problem. Kaspersky is the best AV defense out there (in my opinion), but sometimes it breaks things in weird ways.

Its Kaspersky. I initially paused the kaspersky service when troubleshooting this issue, and that didn't affect the performance. I unload kaspersky, and it takes about 3 seconds.

Sorry for taking up your time. I gotta figure out how to make kaspersky play nice with this now.

Thanks!

Great, glad you located the problem. FYI: I use Avast and have had no issues.
