IR Blaster - power on an STB

Hello:

Very obscure question:

I'm using a serial IRBlaster with WinLIRC to control a Motorola 2244 cable box. I have a script that changes channnels, and it works great. The problem I'm having is controlling the power-on of the cable box. Is there any way to send a signal that turns on the power (and doesn't turn off the box if it is already on?) In other words, I have no idea of knowing if the box is on or not. Anyone have any clever solutions?

Some STB's have a power on, a power off and power toggle IR settings. You might check and see if you have a power on IR commend, then send it as the beginning of any command you send...

Alternatively, just leave it on all the time... That's what I do.
