Hi there,
I've been trying to decide between a 7MC or a gppvr setup for about a week now. Whilst I cannot currently installed gppvr ("installation ended prematurely because of an error" - I'm about to reinstall with windows 7 so probably won't be an issue then) it appears to provide everything I require with the prime advantage being extenders (7MC extenders no longer produced except xbox which isn't quiet).

I've been looking at the NMTs and the Hauppauge MediaMVP and trying to decide between them. I can pick up old MediaMVP (with just a scart port) on eBay for about £10 which is very nice.

How responsive are these though compared to the NMTs in terms of menu and video playback etc? Is there any particular disadvantage?

Also with multiple versions of the MVP - does the software work on them all?

I noticed there was a possibility of the A110 refurbished being sold off on the site again (I think!) so was just wondering whether it would be worth waiting for that rather than buying the newer MVPs for my HD TV as the price then comes in similar.

Apologies for the many questions and long first post!

Cheers.

With that error, are you sure you have installed the pre-requisites?
.net2 or later and the vc runtimes?

I have an MVP and it did sterling service as a client to various versions of gbpvr over the years. I'm not sure about version compatibility. but I see no reason they shouldn't work. Wireless is generally seen to be asking for trouble though.

I have both a new and refurb NMT and they are the business for an HD TV. Not as easy as an MVP for initial setup (which is more or less just plugin) but Martin has made the process quite painless and it only takes a few minutes.

For a tenner, I'd say the MVP was well worth it - if only as a standby for an NMT failure in future ;(

Hi,
Cheers for the reply. Just as long as the menu is of a reasonable pace then that'll be fine. The first generation Sky+HD boxes have a slow response and it's usable but annoying but I had a box they replaced that was incredibly slow and became unusable so just wanted to make sure really!

I have definately got .net2 (well 3 actually) as .net2 is installed with Vista by default. I downloaded the x86 vcdist as per instructions and installed that. I remove the x64 vcdist before I did it just in case of any conflict.

Not sure what else to try but as I'm reformating and installing windows 7 in a few days there shouldn't be any issue.

Do you know of any decent supplier of the MVP in the UK by any chance? Most of them seem way more expensive than in the US. :| (new that is!)

The only other reason I can remember for that error is a problem with an existing installation where something like 'sc delete gbpvrrecordingservice' (that was a guess) is needed to allow a full reinstall.

It is a long time since I bought my MVP, so I've not kept an eye on the market - TBH I wouldn't buy a new one, the advantages of an a100/a110 are worth the extra loot.

Ok cheers. I'll look at the NMTs then - just hope they come up soon. I presume the refurbished ones still come with a warranty anyway.

Yer - not so sure about the error - I also read the same thing you've just said but there is no service installed - it didn't even begin the installation and I've never installed it before.

Very weird!

Oooh - one other thing - is the interface the same on the MVP as you get on the NMT? (with gb-pvr installed)

Excellent - thanks both of you for your help. I look forward to a unit arriving and letting you all know how I get on! Smile
