Hi,

I'm new to GBPVR, I found it from the Hauppauge web site as a 3rd party application for the MediaMVP.

I used my MediaMVP before with the mvpmc project on my linux home server. I've since switched to Windows 7 and, as I thought, the stock Hauppauge software to drive the MediaMVP cannot play any of my videos.

I got the Hauppauge software working, I even upgraded to the 3.4 beta for Vista, since this is the latest version. On their site they say it's for 32-bit, but I'm running 64-bit Windows 7. In fact, if I try to play a .mpg the MediaMVP just reboots so maybe it's working to play videos at all, but at least the MediaMVP is booting up.

I followed the installation instructions of having the Hauppauge software installed, but set the services to Manual startup; installing GBPVR and setting the number of MVP/NMT clients to 1 and getting a fresh dongle.bin. However, even though I've done this my MediaMVP can't find any server to boot from.

When I was using the mvpmc project I remember having to set up a tftp server and changing an option on my network's dhcp server and all that drama, but I did not find similar instructions for neither the Hauppauge software nor GBPVR. Are there steps that I am missing to get the MediaMVP to boot and work with a GBPVR backend?

Hi and welcome Smile

I've been using GB-PVR for a few years now, at first with a MVP but since 1½ years I've switched to a PopcornHour NMT instead.
I have not used Windows 7 as the platform for my server, I've always used XP so if there are any perks with 7 I cannot help you. You say you've used mvpmc earlier and that was exactly what I used with the MVP and GB-PVR (I found it more stable than the original dongle). Just rename it to dongle.bin and replace the original one (but I guess you already knew this).

Have you checked the firewall settings to be sure pvrx2 is allowed network access?
I also think the Recordingservce has to have Interact with desktop checked.

If you run into problems using mvpmc you should be able to get support here, Martin (mvallevand) who was/is involved in the mvpmc project is on this forum and has developed a new "dongle" that makes the NMT a HD replacement for the MVP.

Hey forzaKGB,

Thank you thank you thank you thank you. Those two tweaks worked. I thought I checked the firewall settings in Windows 7 under the advanced settings and saw pvrx2 going through the firewall, but when I checked the regular settings it was not listed.
After adding it there, and allowing the recording service to interact with the desktop everything works now.

Thanks again!

No problem. I think you will find this forum will help you if it is possible.
Just ask nice and you will get help Smile

I also think it is a good Idea to use mvallevands NMTinstall.exe when installing GB-PVR even if you do not plan to install an NMT. It downloads and installs all patches and updates aswell as it sets Interact with desktop (I think) and possibly also opens up the Firewall (have not seen that but hten again I'm running XP and not Windows 7 on my PVR server).
