Some nice development for NMT's: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...300&page=1. I hope this will have positive effects on mvpmcx2 as well, for example:
- All files being playable (including DVD's), no need for mono or difficult setup of windows shares;
- Animated menu's / 3D rendering.

Pure speculation, of course. What are your thoughts about this (in this early stage of XMBC on NMT), Martin?

I've been following this thread and watched the video several times and if ejp has been able to do this port, it will be impressive. The speed of the screens isn't impossible, but the PCH don't have hardware 3D, I am really curious how he achieved the level of XBMC compatibility that he say he did. My first choice for a client for the MVP would have been MP but it also lacked 3D.

He definitely might the right decision to stay with the first gen PCH's. As I have been saying as long as you can get them at a good price they are very capable. I wouldn't buy a PCH at $200 or more for XBMC I'd buy a nettop with XBMC linux. It's a little different for GB-PVR clients when you add the cost of Windows 7.

As for the impact on mvpmcx2, I don't see a lot, other than I would like to participate in the development of XBMC-NMT For specific features, with a hard disk you could configure the NMT to boot into mvpmcx2 already, I just don't support that. x2 also uses a 2D frame buffer and this is all down at the server so there's no impact on the graphics. Finally I can't see the value of include of changing the media playing engine to ffmpeg at this point to simply to avoid mono/amp_test start up time.

As you know I'm extremely happy with the current mvpmcx2. But the one advantage I see using ffmpeg would be the possibility to integrate GBPVR's OSD, navigation and resume on the more exotic file formats. Being able to press 5 and skip to skip 5 minutes is a brilliant idea from sub, and that's the main thing I'm missing in mono. You would eventually get all of GBPVR's look and feel, exactly the same as on the PC.
But first of all we'll have to wait for XMBC on the NMT. If it was the 1st of april, I wouldn't believe it, but I guess it's really coming our way.

AFAIK, sub only has an mpeg parser for the PCH/MVP, so you wouldn't get GBPVR key playback anyway.

Well, maybe sub can add other formats to his parser for the next release Big Grin

it will be great for those who have their media setup for xbmc already and love the xbmc interface/skins.
in the thread is eluded to a direct access method he is using was mentioned by someone else that i thought may be of use to you..[that he used for fluid 3d interface of the menus]
and then there's the sweet xbmc xcript for gbpvr from Ton that already works...Smile
[should also work on this port,pretty much all python]

As I wrote above there is very little that I can take from another app to speed up mvpmcx2. It is using a vnc-like display that is already hardware accelerated.

I didn't note this earlier but I expect python as a non-compiled language will be a CPU bound and that will be one of XBMC-NMT's weak points.

For those who are interested in xbmc on nmt's, here is a new video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBaD2Hxhay4. Since this is not really mvpmcx2 related, maybe we should move this to the "General Discussion" part of the forum?

Chris, I see no problem using this thread for everything XBMC-NMT related.
