I am trying to correct a remote issue with my harmony one and mce ir dongle. I used to have the Windows [Crtl + Esc] button and an [Alt + Tab] customized to the remote via keyboard, but I can not longer teach the remote commands with the keyboard I have.

Does anyone know if a way to implement this so that I can check on other software from my remote with out the need for vnc or something similar?

I am already familiar with the MCE remote with out software link: http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...Y-SOFTWARE!

but I don't believe it will work outside of the GBPVR software.

Thanks

it should work...it changes windows' own translation tables, so those keys get sent to whatever app has focus...
only problem is, you only get one set of mappings...everything's global..

Thanks, just a quick question, I am trying to not replace the current button selection (because it is perfect), but just add the couple of custom buttons.

My issue is mostly teaching the remote the commands. Do you know the ones for ctrl+esc (windows) as well as alt+tab. Will I have to replace all of the commands for this to work?

Thank you again!

hmm, well this only remaps windows output when not using any software..
so it only understands the native MCE remote key presses, nothing to learn..you'll have to emulate a mce remote on the Harmony..[program it with regular mce remote ir output]
then windows can translate any of those buttons to do whatever you want...
now this is only with standard mce remotes, the harmony will have to emulate one..

so say you had harmony setup to emulate a mce remote, then you'd just have to tell windows to do an alt-tab when that mce remote ir code is received...[even tho Harmony remote is sending it]
you could use any remote key that sends out a mce code that you don't already use..
[like photos or radio or something like that]
the list of what translations are available at the link on wiki..[translation tables]
i believe alt-tab is 04,03,2b [04 means keyboard key, 03 means alt-, 2b is tab] [04, 01, 29 is ctrl-esc] these are last 3 pairs..others stay same..
this trick won't respond to any other remote's codes..only MCE remotes or those emulating them..[universal]

is your remote already setup to blast mce remote codes?

I already blast the MCE codes. That was the easy part. I will use the radio or something and rename it like you suggested, thanks.

it's in the pdf at top of page on wiki..."MCE & VMC Remotes"
oops, sorry, the link wasn't on wiki..http://www.mediacenterguides.com/sites/d...putINF.pdf
radio-0x50
pictures-0x49
videotext-0x5a

so edit line starting with key in question like this...
5a,00,00,00,04,03,2b ; would make videotext[5a] button be alt-tab[04,03,2b]
starting to make sense? you have to get the reference tables from wiki page to figure them out..
