I have a Hauppauge 1800 card, which came with a remote and ir blaster wire/receiver. Somehow I've managed to lose both the wire and the receiver, though, and I can't figure out what to replace it with. Everything I can find either looks shady or says it's only for Vista or Windows 7, and I have XP. I'm not against replacing the remote too, I guess, but I like it fine. I just want something that works!!

I have found the exact remote kit that I have (http://store.hauppauge.com/hardware2.asp...mce_remote), on the Hauppauge site, but it specifically says it's for Vista. Does that even apply to me since I'll be using it with GBPVR and not Media Center? Can anyone recommend something that should work, or give me some pointers about what WON'T work?

Thank you!

Here's what I did, given that NPVR doesn't fully support the Hauppauge remote (yet.) I bought one of these on eBay (link will probably only work for a couple of days)

http://cgi.ebay.com/IR-Wireless-Window-M...41510b2ad7

It's actually a very decent remote, won it for $8 - but I was only after the IR receiver for that price because I have a spiffy Logitech programmable remote.

I use it with Win7, however, I also have another MCE remote that I use with GB-PVR and XP... and I've used that for YEARS. If you're using an MCE remote with Widows XP (not Media Center Edition) you need only install the eHome Rollup for MCE on Win XP

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...laylang=en

I haven't done this in years because my XP machine is pretty stable with GB-PVR. It did work first time and well, way back. I don't know if any "new" MCE remotes have any issues with this method, maybe someone else will chime in.

I've come to prefer MCE remotes, the Hauppauge remotes seem sometimes sluggish for me and one of my HD-PVRs will just lock up with excessive remote use. An MCE receiver and remote seem to have eliminated this issue for me.

NPVR doesnt auto add any settings to the Hauppauge irremote.ini file, but you should be able to everything you could do with an MCE remote by adding a section in irremote.ini.

they just mean it's designed for vista's media center, meaning it has the extra buttons present on vista remotes..
the dongle is same as xp ones...same driver etc..

you could use any remote you wish and customize buttons with hip or irss..plus blasting..
but it'll work for most buttons as-is also...or try my mce-no-software trick to customize buttons using windows itself...

Thanks! After I saw this I put a bid on one. This is one of the first **cheap** remotes that I've liked.......... but haven't been looking all that hard either Wink

I'm initially planning on using it when I travel (DVDs and recorded shows) on the laptop.
