well only a few of the keys were mappable...
then there's always my mce-no-software trick..Smile [in my sig]
lets you remap the mce remote's keys, but i doubt it'll do anything for the keyboard keys..
at very least you may be able to remap some other keys to do what you want...

here's away to do it with autohotkey...
http://www.autohotkey.com/forum/topic7135.html
very interesting...

or this one looks easy...SharpKeys [permanently remaps hid keys]
which is basically like my no-software trick but for keyboards...only modifies registry...

pBS, that looks like it might be what I want.
I have a no-name media keyboard/mouse combo
If I want to map a media key such as APPCOMMAND_MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE to to a key combination like Ctrl+Q, how would I do that?

I'm a real big fan of your mce-no-software trick, our main TV has an RC6 remote on it and I use the reg settings (thanks!) I didn't expect the response to this thread so far, but I mentioned earlier that I've found a lot of the newer remotes that claim to be MCE compatible *and* feature a disc for mouse control are really just HID keyboard/mice devices and don't use the MCE reg keys from your no software solution. Many of the Adesso, ORtek, and "no name" far East remotes on eBay are of this type. I'm gonna take a look at SharpKeys... that looks... interesting.

Hopefully sub will answer my original question about the "new" KeyMappings.xml originally as that would be the most straight-forward method.

Those remotes are great for MCE, not so great for any other software. See my two posts at http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...post364452

Mine ended up sitting in a drawer somewhere.

I just checked this for both {ALT} and {SHIFT} by modifying the existing "Pause" command in the KeyMappings, and both worked fine here.

It works! I can map virtually anything to this remote and supply a KeyMappings file for others to use with the above mentioned series of remotes. The remote even has a right+click and with the mouse disc you can get into the settings. Sweet.

sub, 1) I couldn't seem to get "Escape" mapped to anything, even my Backspace key on my keyboard. Could that still be hard-coded in the .exe? 2) Do you plan to add more items to that KeyMappings.xml file? I'd like to be able to hop around the various core NPVR areas like Guide, LiveTV, etc. using the color buttons on this remote. It even has a miniguide button.

Yes. There is a core set of keys I wouldnt expect to change, and these are hard code. ie, keys like 0-9, enter, escape etc.

Quote:2) Do you plan to add more items to that KeyMappings.xml file?
Yes, but only for keys outside of that core set mentioned above.

Thanks, that's going to be handy. If you could consider mapping Esc & F7, that would be handy. If not, I can probably use one of the tweakers out there to reassign the key in the registry, but I would like to make this available for all users when fully functional.
