Sorry if I offended, my question was what res to use on the logos to get max quality. That question follows naturally as this thread enlightened how to activate logos in the first place which I had been missing. The ramblings was to shed light on why rescaling always is always bad for quality. But for this purpose that issue is ignorable.

If you're using the default skin, and require no resizing, then you probably need to set your icon height to like 6.12% of your desktop vertical height.

Actually I'm not too worried ... it was a bit of a virtual pout and some petulance regarding my original question (although I think tieke tried...) :-) :-)
