Hey everyone,

I'm running nPVR 1.5.36 patch 5 + and I have a couple of playback issues with my recordings. The first which has been an issue earlier for me is that when I skip forward multiple times, sometimes it will go into slow motion. I need to skip forward some more to get back into normal playback mode. The other, which I just noticed tonight while watching a recording of Fringe is that the timeline went to zero length (position 0 and length of 0) when I was about 2/3's way through. I tried stopping the recording and I realized I could no longer resume where it left off.

Attached is my npvr log.

Thanks.

you're storing your recordings on a NAS box, and by doing so you appear to be losing the Timing.Info alternate data stream (ADS). Without the Timing.Info stream, you're at the mercy of any little glitch in the broadcast stream, or even changes in the broadcast timeline caused by the insertion of commercials. While it will often work ok anyway, you'll frequently get the results you've gotten.

your only recourse is to ensure that your recordings are being stored on a NTFS file system so as not to lose the ADS.

OK. Thanks. I think I understand. If I wanted to continue recording to my NAS drive; could I first record it locally, then have a postprocessing batch file to convert it to mpg, avi, ???? file format and then store it on my NAS drive? I don't want to keep the recordings locally due to the fact that it's only a 32GB SSD (roughly 17GB free) and I want other devices within the household to have access to the recordings without keeping the htpc on 24/7. I guess if this would be possible, I would then have an issue trying to record a 5 hour NASCAR race in HD, but it's a start.

Thanks for your help.

The Timing.Info stream is only used by NPVR upon playback. It won't matter where you record it to if you intend to transcode it anyway.

A better alternative which would require a change to NPVR would be for NRecord to write the Timing.Info stream to a separate file alongside the recording file (perhaps configurable in config.xml, since using ADS is preferable for the majority of users). That would then remove the requirement for the recording drive to be an NTFS drive. But that would be up to sub to implement if he so chooses.

The next release already has the ability to do that. The default is to continue to use the NTFS alternernate data stream, but it can be configured to create an extra file, and use it during playback.
