I hit that same problem with SD recordings several years ago - quite a few people did and posted issues about it on the boards. Sad that it's still a problem.

If you're still not happy with performance, Overlay mode might be worthwhile. It's what I ended up with when I was on XP. It generally has the lowest CPU usage but with fewer aspect ratio options compared to VMR. I never was happy with EVR on XP.

Thanks for all the great help from all of you! I confused you with changing my systems and my sig. I gave up on the single core Athlon 64 3500+ system (XP MCE). It is now just for surfing. I moved up to my old retired DVR box with a dual core AMD 3600+ (XP home) with the 8400 GS card. For now, it seems to work OK. I get some minor glitching, but I will work with it for a while. I ended up with FFSHOW for both audio and video codecs for HD and SD. I am on EVR now and the SD shows fine. I just updated the video driver so I will test back with VMR9 later. All in all, I am happy. The card is a cheap Zotac fanless from NewEgg. It only cost $5.99 after a $25 rebate and an additional $4.99 shipping. So as long as I get the rebate back, I have another HD client for $11.00Smile

I did have another small issue that you might already know about. I moved over my mce remotes IR tranceiver and it would not work. It could not find the drivers. I guess it was some old MS bug that would not allow it to work on XP Home. I found a replacement set of driver components at the media portal forum. It saved my butt since the driver is only found in MS patches and it would not let me install them since "I already had a more current version" . Some extra file management and it now works great.

I will keep you posted if I have any more revelations about this system.

Thanks again
