I'm looking for the best complementary product to NPVR to provide a web player interface. For example running Windows Media Center 7 etc. alongside NPVR to allow (remote control) access to UK services such as Sky Player and BBC iPlayer?

I'm thinking of running WMC, with appropriate plugins (already has native Sky Player support), but not configuring any tuners etc. (as all recording/playback handled by NPVR). I don't think there will be any comparable native mature plugins for NPVR in the near future and there is an appeal to watching web streaming programs using a remote control (and not having to use a mouse and browser/app).

Anybody have any experiences on thoughts on this? I try to keep my setups as simple as possible so I'd really like to know of any issues/caveats of having multiple PVR apps running concurrently. With a Harmony remote control driving an iMon receiver I'm quite happy with launching and managing multiple apps.

I was thinking of testing out the 7MC bbC iplayer myself last night.

It is possible that you may be able to launch the WMC plugin from within NPVR like I do with the media browser plugin using this customer task. The problem is figuring out what the entrypoint is.....

[config.xml]
<MenuLayout>
<MenuItem enabled="true" exe="C:\Windows\ehome\ehshell.exe" args=" /nostartupanimation /entrypoint:{CE32C570-4BEC-4aeb-AD1D-CF47B91DE0B2}\{FC9ABCCC-36CB-47ac-8BAB-03E8EF5F6F22}">Media Browser</MenuItem>

here is a link on how to find the entry points to enable you to construct a custom task.

Custom tasks would certainly make the solution integrated and tidy using the entry point method for launching 7MC into a specific plugin. Had not appreciated this so thanks.
I need to do some testing of having both 7MC and NPVR active. Although there should be no problem I am always wary of conflicts with all the resident services etc. I find any addition always seem to mess with automatic standby, decoder priority etc.

Interested in what plugin you are using for BBC iPlayer?

Cheers, that looks neat. I was planning to try TunerfreeMCE but this might be a better alternative, especially as it appears to not prereq WMC.
