Of course then they all flew here for the winter thinking that they would be safe and ended up on our plates......

I have no doubt that Martin was a model child so therefore it makes sense that the "Jolly Jumper" people are still using his image to this day as a marketing tool. Sorry Martin. Your picture follows:

Maybe they emigrated from around here, a few years ago one of our local (hobby) farmers used to breed them & when he got fed up with it he just let them loose on the neighborhood, we have had turkeys breading in our flowerbeds & all over the place, slowly the numbers have reduced but there are still a few around....

As for the Canadian geese I think a large number of them are also down here this time of year as I seem to remember NZ is one of the places they come to when they migrate for the winter.
