HDPVR or Colossus are both capable of providing this functionality (ie analog HD capture).

This lack of analog quality setting isnt a big deal. In the config.xml you can already define different bitrates for each of the source resolutions the HDPVR or Colossus might encounter. Very few people seem to need a different bitrates on different shows.

I absolutely would if you you ever implement my suggestion to tune the HDPVR twice, to address the driver bug that forces me to set my STB to a constant bitrate.

I thought about my last post a bit and I think that the problem with my HDPVR might not be the drivers all along. I did some testing and what I think was happening was NRecord was using the previous channel's aspect ratio to set the default. If I flip from SD to HD, the first few seconds (while tuning) are in 480p, so NextPVR would set the 3-6Mb bitrate for HD channels. I set the SD config.xml mode to the same bitrate as HD and the problem of crappy recording has gone away. Now to see if it is stable too.
