Directx runtime keeps falling off my machine

Not strictly an NPVR issue, but every 5 days or so I notice the menus not scrolling correctly. If I go into settings it tells me the directx runtime is not available...re-installing the runtime fixes it, but the same happens a few days later. I've tried the web installer and the full download but it's the same either way. Anyone got any ideas....how can I check if the directx runtime is there and working to cross check the NPVR message?
