I just purchased a MVP for an old analog TV that I want to use in my garage and I've never used an mvp before, I installed the mvp software from hauppauge and can play music but I can't get npvr on it. I used nmtinstall2 but I don't see a way to access npvr from the mvp and really don't know whats next and the wiki really was no help. I ran the checker and below is the output I get and I don't know what to do next. I'd like to use the mvp to watch live tv when the race is on if I can.

nmtinstall2 is for NMT devices, not for your MVP.

If I remember correctly I think all you need to do is:
  1. Set Number of servers to 1 on the NMT & Web tab in the settings.
  2. Reboot the MVP.

You can also use an alternative dongle:
  1. Download the dongle file from here and put in the dongle subfolder in the NextPVR data directory.
  2. Edit the <Dongle> section in Config.xml with the name of the dongle you want to use.
  3. Reboot the MVP.

Note that the MVP is pretty old tech and so not as capable or as as well supported as it's once was.

I tried that first but I didn't see a way to access Npvr from the MVP so I tried nminstall2.

Ok after redownloading the dongle and restarting I goet to mvpmc screen but when I select emulation mode it just reboots to the same screen, shouldn't that get me to the npvr screen?

Because you ran NMT install you have set up your MVP as a PCH @ 1280x720. You will need to change config.xml from PCH2 to MVP and the resolution to a SD resolution.

Without a doubt the wiki could be clearer on this but as stated the MVP is now a very old device...

With the support from sub and Martin the MVP actually works very well with NextPVR (with very few limitations!) persist and pursue, perhaps when you have it working you could help out with making the wiki a little clearer!

cheers

Got it working, it was the settings mvallevand mentioned that fixed it, thanks.
Steeb you really wouldn't want me mucking about in the wiki, my pc skills are limited and my writing skills even more so, I usually get things working by just clicking on everything and hoping for the best.

Great stuff, I think it was brilliant of sub and Martin to get this old hardware cranked up for NextPVR!

Oh but I would :-) You are an ideal candidate for mucking about on the wiki ;-) Very few of us know what we are doing. I like to click too!

cheers
