Yeah, true. I'll have to play around and see if there are some programs which keep the same ID from week to week.
I might also try with the CRID using the alpha fields too, and see if they are different.

Here in the UK I have been interested in something to avoid duplicate recordings as I tend to delete most recordings as already watched or recorded. I have had a play with EPG Collector using a DVB-T tuner and it has produced "episode-numb" data and several samples are listed below from various channels.

<episode-num system="xmltv_ns">/L2IKNX . /ABGJER . 0</episode-num>

<episode-num system="xmltv_ns">/39427613 . /251650 . 0</episode-num>

<episode-num system="xmltv_ns">/RB2V . /V5OOM . 0</episode-num>

From checking several duplicate EPG entries in a series the first "item" is the "Series ID" and the second is the "Episode ID". If the xml file was imported instead of using the standard EPG would NextPVR be able to use any of the series or episode data to avoid duplicate recordings or to record a "Series"?

I had the same thought about Series & Episode, but unfortunately those ones sub quoted

Quote:<episode-num system="xmltv_ns"> . 33004 . </episode-num>

have a "." before & after the number that would cock things up I think.

I have added some logic in the next release, which only kicks in if the generator-info-name attribute in the xmltv file starts with "DomainObjects", which will generate a unique show id from the first and second parts of these numbers, but only if they're both present. ie, that "33004" example would end up with no unique id, so follow existing logic.

An added complication is that some channels repeat the same programme multiple times over a week. It seems that each transmission over the week has the same episode number but a different series number so only one episode is recorded each week. In some cases each episode is repeated up to 8 times so at the moment most recordings are manualy deleted in NextPVR but being able to use episode numbers would be a big help.

Can you post some examples? This could break the logic I just added.

I will try and find a real case but below is an example of what appears to be the “episode-num” system used by one channel that sometimes shows the same episode up to 8 times per week. If I happen to select the second showing of the first episode as the series start then it would need to record everything with series number “zzzz2” so should get only one recording of each episode.

First episode
Series No Episode No
1st showing >/zzzz1 . /aaaa1 . 0<
2nd showing >/zzzz2 . /aaaa1 . 0<
3rd showing >/zzzz3 . /aaaa1 . 0<

Second episode
1st showing >/zzzz1 . /aaaa2 . 0<
2nd showing >/zzzz2 . /aaaa2 . 0<
3rd showing >/zzzz3 . /aaaa2 . 0<
