When I set up a recording to record on any channel, it seems to pick a default channel to try first - in this case, a non HD channel, when the HD tuner is not going to be busy at the time. How would I tell NPVR to prefer a certain channel or lineup over another when using the "Any channel" option?

NPVR selects the device to use for recordings from the top down as listed in the Devices tab of Settings.

Good Luck.

If you do an 'any channel' recording, it'll look for shows that match those requirements, then follow the normal rules to find a device that can record it. ie, it'll work it's way down the device list looking for a device that has that channel and is available at the specified time.

Alright. So it's working as designed. The only issue is that the first device has both HD and SD channels....would the only way I could achieve my goal is by removing all the SD channels from the first device's lineup?

What happens if you give the channels different names? You should be able to edit the channel name in the Channels tab of Settings. You might set it with, for example, WXYZ SD and WXYZ HD.

Well, I don't want to do that - I'd want it to record in SD if the HD tuner is not available, but right now when the HD tuner IS available, it records in SD from the HD tuner if I use any channel. That's why I think removing the SD channels from the HD tuner's lineup would work.
