hi,

i have a few channels that have a HD duplicate eg
- TV One and TV One HD
- Sky Movies and Sky Movies HD

my provider (sky nz) only provides now and next for the HD feeds of the channels but they provide the full EPG for the normal/non hd feeds of the channels.

I would like to have both HD and SD feeds available (so do not want to merge the channels, unless in the future you add the ability to configure the client to choose if it wants HD feeds or not, at that point I would merge SD + HD so appeared as one, but client could watch SD if it wanted), because im using powerline networks and sometimes HD doesnt work well over it and I need to watch a SD feed, and some clients currently dont like HD (my raspberrypi).

so I'm after a way to just map the same epg from one channel onto another channel? is there currently a way to do this?

if not i might just have to write up a little program that runs once a day and copies the epg data in the db (assuming that this wont be deleted/overwritten with nothing when npvr does it own epg update?).

TIA

Can you do what you want by capturing the DVB EPG to XMLTV using DVBguide or somesuch and then mapping the SD channel in the XMLTV to the HD channel.

Good Luck

While you watch the channel in question, you can right-click on the screen and choose "Set epg source".

just tried that, but only brings up the same epg window as the channel editor window. which doesnt let you map to a different channel

If that does not help you I'm afraid you have to resort to xmltv, but you can use DVBGuide and make a fully automated process that runs during night to collect the epg data to an xmltv file that npvr uses for updating. I'm running such a setup and it works flawlessly.

I dont think anyone is using it, so not sure how well tested it is, but there is a way you can do this. On the Settings->Channel screen, hit 'bulk map', then from the EPG Source column select 'last scan', then hopefully you should be able to choose a different channel (from the last digital scan) to act as the epg source.

thanks sub, just tried that, selected the channels i wanted them to map to, close all dialogs via "ok", checked tv guide, still no data.

opened dialog and saw it was set back to "DVB/ATSC", so did it again, making sure i hit ok. tried "Grab EPG" button, but alas no joy and once i reopen the dialog its back on "DVB/ATSC".

so guess this is going to have to be a feature request to allow epg from a different DVB source. keeping in mind that some people might want to only have the HD feed in their channel list, so might not have an instance of the SD channel available, but still want to use the EPG from the SD source.

in the mean time, ill either try xmltv or doing a select/insert into the db directly.

It's normal for it to go back to "DVB/ATSC EPG", since that what it is. It's just telling it to get the DVB/ATSC EPG listings from a different location than the original channel. It doesn't even have to be the same device. ie, DVB-T might be getting listings from DVB-S.

You do need to hit 'update epg' for it to pull in the listings though.

in the end i just fired up epg collector and loaded the data into xmltv then used that for the 5 or so channels with the issue, easiest solution.
