Hi

Having had gbpvr and npvr for a while and previously implemented my own archiver I now want to get me recordings back in one place.

I have recordings as the default place, plus two other locations of where recordings are. I have run an import utility but some recordings are listed but don't play.
When I dump out the database I can't find the files listed where the default recordings are, but they play and the others are in the database with the wrong drive letter and don't play.

Is there a way to move recordings without messing the database. Basically I want to put all my recordings from the odd 2 drives into the main recordings folder. If I just move them then run the import utility will it find the data for the recordings, eg program description. ?

Is there some way to rebuild the database and correct the moved recordings?

Cheers

Keith

What I have done to "move" the location of some recordings is to "Export Recordings" which produces recording-backup.xml. I then edited the file using notepad and changed <filename> from say c:\recordings\...... to d:\ using the find and replace function. When you are happy that each filename is being correctly changed you can then select "Replace All". The modified xml file should now contain the correct file location and should be saved using a different file name so the original is always available in case of a problem.

At this point it is a good idea to make a backup copy of the database so you can get back to the original setup in case something goes wrong. You now need to delete the entire contents of SCHEDULED_RECORDING table in the database. Next using "Import Recordings" in NextPVR the database is repopulated with data from the modified xml file. Its a good idea to make a note of how many recordings NextPVR exported and check its the same number as were imported in case you made a mistake editing the file.

Thanks for the reply - sounds like a plan.

One question - how do I delete the contents of the SCHEDULED_RECORDING table in the database.?

and will the descriptions also be retained?

I was assuming that you had been using some SQL software as you mentioned looking at the contents of the database. I use Firefox with the SQLite plugin but there are numerous other free manager programs. You could use the SQL manager software to edit the file names one at a time if there are not too many.

I have not done this for a couple of years but when I did I think it was on a clean install of Windows and NextPVR so didnt then need to delete the current recordings.

Another option is to edit a copy of recording-backup.xml and delete all the original "good" recordings leaving just the "moved" recordings. When this is "Imported" into the current NextPVR database the "moved" recordings will be duplicated but the ones which dont work can be removed by setting < AutoRemoveMissingRecordings> in config.xml to "True".

No matter what disasterous mistakes you make as long as you keep a copy of your original NPVR.db3 elsewhere you can overwrite the "faulty" database with your original version. With this safety fallback in place its a good idea to try the various options to see which works best for you.

Thanks for the info.
Yep - I had previously used sqlite but I think the database structure has changed and my previous script will probably not work, they are redundent now with the archive feature.
I've forgotton the sql queries, not that I knew it much, and no time at the moment, didn't have children back then so spare time has vanished !!

Like the idea of the auto remove - but do you know what it will do if the recording is on a nas that is turned off?

they will get removed unless you turn it off by editing config.xml

why not just use vid import
http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?....VidImport
or is this the import utility you have used

Been a bit busy and not sorted this out yet Sad

I used vid import the first time, but there are others which have the original details, I don't want to lose the details (show description) by performing to many steps. I assume if I export, edit and re-import then I will retain the details.

I will have a play with it but just seem to have no time.
