I've no personal experience of this device, it just appeared as one of the ads on the forums...

Seagate Central

Up to 4TB storage with support for DLNA, Samsung smart devices and other stuff - interesting.

Cheers,

Western Digital has been pushing something similar recently. I've even seen a few ads on TV by them for it.

I ended up picking up the Western Digital MyCloud to replace an old Linux file server I'd been using. I must say, I'm pretty impressed with it so far. It seems much faster than the old machine it replaces. The web UI is nice - easy to understand and configure.

I like the fact it's simple, and doesn't aim to do too much. I owned a QNAP NAS in the past, and it was trying to do everything (bittorrent, database server etc), but seemed to nothing particularly well, and was much more complicated than it should have been.

The WD shows some tweakability, in case I need it in future. It runs Linux and I can ssh into the device, and install apps, add web sites etc.

I've been using a WD MyBook Live and I have been impressed it with I can record a couple of shows to it and stream at the same time. One of the reasons I got it was that it does have NFS not just Windows shares. A really good source of info on NAS devices is http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas-charts/view with detailed reviews on lots them They even made this comparison with the Seagate Central and a few others here http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/images/st...ompare.jpg
