I have a cablecard tuner (HDHomeRun Prime). My cable provider recently moved some channels. The virtual channel numbers did not change, but physical channel and program did. NPVR didn't know this happened and was getting no data, because it programs the tuner with physical channel and program. I had to re-scan to get the changes.

According to SiliconDust:
<http://www.silicondust.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=16338&p=95930&hilit=virtual+channel#p95930>
"The proper way to tune CableCARD channels is by telling the tuner what virtual channel number you want, and letting the tuner figure out how to tune it."

Observed with NPVR 3.1.1 R1a

Thanks,
Jeff

This is exactly what NextPVR does. It just asks for the channel by virtual channel number, and the HDHR is responsible for working out where that channel is.

But that's not what's being sent to the tuner. Here is the log:

If I tune to the station with HDHomeRun QuickTV, it sends:
set /tuner0/vchannel 704
to the tuner.

I think the non-cablecard tuners need to be programmed with channel & program. There's no mention of vchannel in the
"HDHomeRun Development Guide (20110518)" which predates the cablecard tuner.

What is your output from http://169.254.0.1/lineup.xml?show=unprotected

Yep, check http://169.254.0.1/lineup.xml?show=unprotected. Assuming it can get this, then when it scans, the scan completes instantly, and all tuning from then on uses tuning like "set /tuner0/vchannel 704".

I wonder if your device didn't have the cable card inserted when you initially setup NextPVR, or the HDHR software hadn't yet done the fullscan? This would mean the list of virtual channels wasn't available, and it'd fall back to scanning the individual frequencies. This fallback was really intended to be for users of the DVB HDHR, where there is no virtual channel numbers etc, and requires tuning to be done like the snippets you've posted above.

It sounds like you need to delete your channels and set them up again.

I've scanned the channels more times than I can count Smile, always with
the cablecard installed. The virtual channels have always been visible
in channel setup.

Here's a snippet of the lineup.xml as requested:

<Program>
<GuideNumber>704</GuideNumber>
<GuideName>KSEED</GuideName>
<Tags/>
</Program>

and here's the same channel in the xml from "settings/devices/export
channels":

<Channel>
<Name>KSEEDT</Name>
<Number>704</Number>
<ServiceType>1</ServiceType>
<tuning>
<type>HDHR</type>
<service_id>1</service_id>
<locator>
<sid>1</sid>
<tsid>0x841D</tsid>
<map>us-irc</map>
<chan>18</chan>
</locator>
<encrypted>true</encrypted>
</tuning>
<EPGSource>Schedules Direct</EPGSource>
<epg>
<source>Schedules Direct</source>
<station>24027</station>
</epg>
</Channel>

Do you want me to send the npvr.db3?

Thanks,
Jeff

Delete the npvr.db3, run NextPVR.exe, go to Settings->Devices and set up the device again, then zip and attach the npvr.log, and I'll check what happened with the scan.

Problem is solved! One of my HDHR Primes returned an empty lineup (and was the one I was choosing to tell npvr to scan). The other Prime returned the correct lineup.

Using the SiliconDust setup utility, it is not possible to see that no lineup had been saved. All 6 tuners show the same channel list. I scanned and saved for all the tuners and now get lineup from both Primes.

Perhaps you could display a warning when an empty lineup is returned, suggesting that the user re-run the SiliconDust setup.

Thanks,
Jeff
