This time, i didn't reset nrecord or shutdown NPVR, and loaded Arcsoft Showbiz.

Arcsoft showbiz feed from the colossus card is 100% solid. Stop Showbiz, run live TV, and it is completely unwatchable.

I checked the CPU usage during live stuttery tv, it was about 10% for npvr. nrecord was about 0-2%. Memory was 136mb for nextpvr, and 15mb for nrecord.

Nothing i could see was running at more than normal priority.

And, restarting Nrecord, fixes the problem.

Hmm... One other thought, since you keep saying "right on schedule", is there any chance you might be plugged into an internet router that resets once a week? For instance, I have a Belkin which has a "Self-Healing" function that is located under the Utility menu in the configuration screen. I believe it comes from the factory set to reinitialize the router on a regular time and day each week, which of course you can change or disable. That might trigger a disruption on your PC which for some reason may be susceptible.

It seems to be 10-14 days that it works, before it breaks. I've got a Asus rt-16n running toastman tomato firmware, as far i know it doesn't have any auto reboot/reset function.

In any case, I've rolled back to a clean windows image I made a year ago for that computer, and installed 3.1.1 patch 2 onto it. We'll see how that behaves. If it holds together for a couple months, I'll image it again, and roll up versions to 3.2.9.

Cheers, Joe

With the window of opportunity to troubleshoot it being that small, I would probably be compelled to reload the machine too. Hopefully all goes well.

I don't think it has been suggested but have you tried regular reboots. I sometimes had random problems every week or two which a reboot cured so since then I do an automatic reboot every night after EPG update after checking NextPVR is not recording. I found that this greatly improved the reliability of my NextPVR server.

What script do you use to do this? Would you mind sharing it?

Thanks

Below is contents of my PostUpdateEPG.bat which goes in the scripts directory. If NextPVR is NOT recording it will reboot otherwise it checks again 60 seconds later. I removed the bits where I first make a backup of the database and the logs directory

Chris

*******************
echo off

REM Reboot if not recording
set NSHelper=c:\"program files"\npvr\nscripthelper.exe

:check
FOR /F "tokens=*" %%i in ('%NSHelper% -isinuse') do SET condition=%%i
echo %condition%
IF %condition% =="NOT RECORDING" goto reboot

:delay
sleep 60
goto check

:reboot

echo "About to reboot"
shutdown /r

Thanks, I will give this a try. I'm still having the problem, even with the rolled back windows, a mainboard swap (the one in there was from 2007 so I figured it was worth a shot).

About the only thing I haven't done is a clean windows 7 install or replace the colossus. But if this works, I'm going to leave it.

There is a long thread about the Colossus on the SageTV forums http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52718 with lots of talk about the need for daily reboots to avoid glitches.
