Not all frequencies are created equal. Go to http://www.ukfree.tv/starthere.php and put your postcode in the box to the right and near the top to find your transmitter. The "power" for each frequency (also called a mux) is shown in the mux list for the transmitter. But ... I would expect the the main muxes to be all at the same power.

but the OP said "The software that comes with the Pinnacle stick picks up the channels and displays them fine" so why do we think it is a signal issue?

Because with UK Freeview, inability to watch/record channels on specific muxes are usually due to poor signal or bad tuning. Either way, the OP's apparent reluctance to post their logs means that we are reduced to guesswork which invariably leads to going round in circles...

Sorry, my reluctance to post logs is simply because I've given up with the Pinnacle now, and stuck with the Hauppage! It works absolutely fine with same cables, aerial socket etc. I doubt very much it's a signal issue since the Pinnacle software worked fine and plugging a "normal" freeview box into the aerial socket, which was able to give feedback on signal strength and quality on that particular MUX showed both good quality and strength. I'm convinced it's either a NextPVR problem, or an issue with this particular model (or just mine?) of this pinnacle stick. Regardless, it's all working fine with the Hauppage. Thanks for your help guys!
