I believe I read in the nextpvr wiki that you could record two channels with a single tuner. However, I cannot seem to do that. I set up two manual test recordings of 10 minutes each to record at the same time, but on different channels of course. I could not set the second recording because it told me that there was a conflict with the other scheduled recording. I had to choose between the two. What did I do wrong?

The two channels need to be on the same frequency on your digital tuner. I can't think of an easy way of determining this - maybe in the channel set up you can see the frequencies.

Same frequency? I guess I missed that in the wiki. I'm just trying to record standard atsc TV, and I think all terrestrial channels in the US are different frequencies. I was thinking that nextpvr was like mediaportal, which I can record two channels with, but I thought it was way too complicated of a program to use, at least as far as set up goes.

In the respect of recording multiple channels off the same frequency it is the same as media portal. There may have been a multirecord check box that needs to be turned on in the nextpvr settings? It was a long time ago when it was introduced and mine has been set up since then.

Over here, we have about 5 - 6 channels on the single frequency (or transponder, or mux are it's other names).

i think this is the frequency I'm supposed to show you:

Quote:<tuning>
<type>DVB-T</type>
<locator>
<frequency>586000</frequency>
<bandwidth>8</bandwidth>
</locator>
<service_id>1201</service_id>
<tsid>27</tsid>
<onid>8746</onid>
<service_type>25</service_type>
</tuning>

In the Channel setup of the setting syou should be able to see this.

I was able to see that there is indeed a unique frequency for each channel. However, I can record two of those channels in media portal. So if nextpvr uses the same method as media portal, then I should be able to record two channels. As much as I dislike media portal, I will have to go back to that program if I cannot get this feature to work in nextpvr.

Yep, like MediaPortal, it can only do multiple digital channels with a single tuner if they are on the same frequency. The usefulness of this varies from country to country. It's of limited use in North America, where each network typically has it's own frequency, but does let you do things like record CBS-2 while recording CBS at the same time. It's a little more useful on digital cable in North America, since they'll sometimes put a few good channels on the same frequency.

In some other countries they often have a several of the top channels sharing the same frequency, making it very useful.

Not true. A single tuner can only be tuned to a single frequency. You're mistaken about what is possible.

trust us, Media Portal isn't capable of magic - it can only record from a single frequency with a single tuner, just as NextPVR can. NextPVR can record any or all TV channels carried on a single frequency at the same time with one tuner. There is no setting to enable it, it's always enabled and completely automatic; psycik was thinking of the old program GB-PVR which had a checkbox to enable the feature.

if you do a channel scan and then upload your NPVR.log, we can tell you which channels are on the same frequencies.

The easy way to tell if you multi-rec is when you scan minor channels like 25.1 25.2 25.3 the you can record them all together. Nitpicking a bit, it does capture 6Mhz so it is more a frequency band not a single frequency.

Agreed, that is nitpicking, more than just a bit.Rolleyes
