Im currently using ServerWMC as pvr with Emby/Kodi and it has a problem with not being able to manage back to back recordings using one tuner and i wonder if NPVR suffers from the same problem. Basically Lets say i have TVshow 1 at 7h30 that last 30mins and then TVshow 2 at 8h00.

TVShow 1 has a pre-padding 2min and a post-padding 0 min
TVShow 2 has a pre-padding 0min and a post-padding 2 min

WMC always ends up stopping TV show 1 1min or 2 after the show ends instead of right away which ends up putting the start of TVshow 2 at the end of TVshow 1 recording.

Would i expericence this problem if i swicth to NPVR. I was told on the Kodi Forum that this is a WMC problem and that nothing can be done since i only have 1 tunner and that i would need a second tuner to get around it. I use a HDPVR Colossus and i only have one set top box so i cant get a second tuner since i dont have a second box to plug it to.

With NPVR in your scenario described, TVShow 1 would stop recording at 8h00 and TVShow 2 would begin recording at 8h00. There would be no conflict or issue. The only delay between them would be a few seconds for stopping the recording graph, changing the channel on the box, then starting the new recording.... maybe 3-5 seconds.

also, if the recordings happened to be back-to-back on the same channel, then you could actually get overlapping padding on both recordings if you wanted. TVShow 1 could record a minute long, and TVShow 2 could start a minute early. You can set padding on all recordings if you like; NPVR will give you the padding whenever it can, and automatically cuts it if it can't.

(I don't understand why WMC ought to have any problem with this scenario... it runs the first recording long and starts the second late for no reason? silly.)

Thanks for the response. 95% of the time the TV show 1 and 2 are on the same channel and my wife is hating that we keep loosing the start of our programs. I used to be on npvr before i moved to Mediaportal and then Emby. When i switched to EMby, i decided to go with WMC for convenience but now that the NPVR plugin in Emby seems be as stable as ServerWMC i want to move back but wanted to be sure to not have this problem anymore.

Cable STB can take about 5-10 seconds to tune even with a remote The IR tuner via the USB device can't be used in parallel for streaming and tuning so the delay starts with tuning which adds a few seconds. The good thing was when sub introduced multi-rec he also stopped sending the redundant tuning string so it is as fast as digital for tuning
