I'm trying to test streaming from Nextpvr. I go to http://localhost:8866 and the guide comes up just fine. When I click on "view live" for any channel, Firefox gives a grey box with the message "A plugin is needed to display this content". That's it. Doesn't tell me what plugin or anything else. IE just shows me an empty box and says something about a VLC plugin, which I cannot find anyplace.

I am running Windows 8.1 X64.

I am running 64 bit VLC. I have checked the "config-web.xml" to make sure it's pointing to the correct folder for VLC.

Anyone know what might be going on?

When you ran the install of VLC did you check the option to install the browser plugin? Also.....I have learned that VLC is dropping support and distribution of the browser plugin so I am thinking of alternatives....

Thanks for the reply.

I couldn't remember, so I ran the VLC installer again and made sure the plugins were checked and then rebooted. No change.

IE shows the VLC as an enabled add-on, but it doesn't work.

Firefox does not show anything to do with VLC under Plugins.

I'm wondering if this is because I'm running 64 bit VLC. I went to that version due to another issue that seemed to get resolved when I went to this version.

I am running x64 and it works for me.

EDIT: Where I use it I am running x86 VLC.... where I have x64 installed (on my server) I tried it and it did not work there so it could be x64...... uninstall and try the x86 version.

Well, for some reason the X86 version of VLC will not play BDs on my system. Who knows why? (Video driver, etc.) I installed the X64 version and presto, BDs play fine. So, I would have to either give up BDs or give up streaming from NextPVR. Yuk.

Do you know if I can run X86 and X64 VLC simultaneously? That way I could use the X86 only for NextPVR stuff. I don't think I would need to install the plugins from the X64 version.

yep...they can be installed side-by side...you just need to set your shortcuts to the respective versions.

I installed the 32 bit version with essentially no options selected except for the Plugins. After that, the watch live started working. So, this definitely appears to be a problem with 64 bit VLC.
