I have this all set up but sometimes when I click on any channel and Watch I get the message: "Unable to communicate with recording service". Am I losing the connection to my tuner somehow? I have a Hauppauge 1600 and it all set up fine, but I am having this problem. I tried the tuner just now with WMP and it will connect to tv channels fine.

Simply stated, NextPVR has two software components. The client software is the bit that you see on screen and is where you set up the Devices and watch TV and all that. NextPVR also has a Recording Service software component that should run continuously in the background. It is the recording service that that communicates with the tuner. The error message is saying that the recording service is having a problem.

What do you see if you use Command Prompt and CD to the Program Files fodler for NPVR and enter ... nrecord.exe RUN ... (the RUN must be uppercase).

In any event, please zip and attach logs and state the date and time of the error so that we know where to look in the logs. Thanks

I think I know what is causing this. The issue is resolved for the next release. In the meantime, untick the Settings->Recordings "look for alternate airings of unresolved conflicts" checkbox, and restart the recording service.

I am using version 3.5.7. In my settings>recordings there is no box like that. I see one that says “Avoid duplicate recordings where possible”. Is that it? And if so how do I restart the recording service? You mean just exit and restart and try a channel?

Ok that makes sense for this all. As this is intermittent I’ll have to find when it does it again to do the logs. I actually don’t even use this all much as I am usually wanting to record and as in my other topic I am having problems with that also so NextPVR at this point is not working for me. This may also be related to my newest topic I am posting about a strange audio problem which is worse using Windows Media Center.

Well this is kind of interesting. I have tried the setup a few times today and it has regularly worked. I even tried some recording and that works also. I'll report back if it has problems again. Crossing my fingers.

Nope. It's called "look for alternate airings of unresolved conflicts". It's on the Settings->Recordings screen, about 3/4 of the way down the screens.

When NextPVR was installed, it installed to shortcuts called "Stop NPVR Service" and "Star NPVR Service". You could use those, or you could just use the Windows "Services" control panel to restart it.

Definitely nothing like that other than what I mentioned. I right click, go to settings and the recording screen. I don't know.

It is still continuing to connect to the tuner fine today. Recordings complete and will play also. I mostly just have my weird audio problem that I have a separate topic on.

I think you might be mistaken about 3.5.7. I run 3.4.8 on one machine and 3.5.7 on another. The "look for alternate airings" line is not there in 3.4.8, it's new in 3.5.7, another checkbox right below your "Avoid duplicate recordings" checkbox. If you will zip and post logs, we can tell for sure what rev you're running, and if it's 3.5.7 then it's a mystery. Like a corrupted download or something. If it's another version, you're going to get possibly bad advice. Like calling a mechanic for advice on a Chevy when you drive an Oldsmobile.

Yes something may be strange here. For a fact when I click settings.About it says 3.5.7. I went back to make sure where I got the download and I am sure it was right from your site. I looked at the file I used which is still in my downloads and it is listed as 3.4.8 in it's properties and the date is Oct 30, 2015. My real problem any more is my audio problem that I have another topic on, the tuner is connecting and recordings will play. I am going to uninstall NPVR and re install this new download that is shown as 3.5.7, hoping that will fix my strange audio problem unless you really need me to do the logs prior to that.
