Comcast switch to MPEG-4 - How to change config with least impact/hassle?

Here's a sample. I verified on the SD version of the channel it has subtitles (SD is still MPEG2). Then recorded the same show on the HD channel which is H.264.

I have spent some time investigating it, and I now understand how the closed captions are carried in these streams, but I haven't added support for them in NextPVR yet.

I received notice that Comcast will be changing to MPEG-4 here starting March 28. Can I change the channel type to H.264 now, before they switch, or will that cause a problem? I tried it on a few channels and recordings seem to work fine, but I get only black screen with audio for live tv. Is that expected?

I would rather lose live tv for a while than get bad recordings when they switch.

Recordings will continue to work regardless of what you've got it set to.

For Live TV, the channel type needs to be set correctly. If you don't have it set correctly for what is currently being transmitted, then you wont be able to watch live tv.
