Just want to remind everyone, some may not even know, that the Federal Communications Commission, which regulates the public airwaves, held an auction to reallocate TV airwaves for wireless internet services and many stations will cease operating sometime in January 2018.
What many stations are doing is moving their channels to other stations that a) they already own or b) that will lease them sub-channels.
In my area WOTH (channel 20) is moving their stations to WKRP (channels 25) They are ceasing operations on Jan 23rd 2018.
Their press release states :
If you are OTA and things start missing or you start getting errors like zero data, know this is probably the reason and run a channel scan.
In unrelated news, the FCC approved and fast tracked ATSC 3.0. on a voluntary basis. Sinclair Broadcasting, who will soon own 3/4 of the OTA stations in the US if the merger goes through, has announced they will convert, and has a rapid deployment plan. The FCC did require existing major network channels (Assumed to be ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, TBN and THE CW) to be broadcasted in ATSC 1.0 until a TV market reaches a certain percentage of ATSC 3.0 among the market stations. Sinclair expects to move fast with it's ATSC transitions.
