A question for SUB.

I have both Freesat & Freeview (Terrestrial) dual tuners and a number of the UK channels appear on both sources (i.e. the same channel appears on 4 different tuners).

I have combined those channels in the channel setup such that the two satellite channels appear first followed by the terrestrial ones.

E.g. BBC4 HD satellite
BBC4 HD satellite
BBC4 HD Terrestrial
BBC4 HD Terrestrial

The EPG source is set as "Freesat UK".

My expectancy, given that setting, was that it would scan the Freesat EPG frequency and populate the EPG ignoring the Terrestrial EPG source.

The reason I ask is that the BBC4 HD channel on Terrestrial has just moved frequency and I started seeing EPG entries saying "This channel has moved" instead of normal TV listings.
This implies the EPG data was being drawn from the Terrestrial channel and not Freesat.

What is the logic behind selecting the source for EPG data for this mix of tuners?

I ask because we are about to go through months of terrestrial channel frequency changes in the UK (:madSmile and I'm sure lots of fun with it. Rolleyes

When you first scan a digital tuner, and a channel is created, the EPG source that channel is set to 'DVB EPG from that device'.

When you later visit the Settings->Channels screen and highlight multiple channels, right click and hover over the merge submenu, you see the list of channels you had highlighted, and can select one. When you do this, all the highlighted channels are deleted, except the one you selected. Those deleted channels are then created as additional mappings to the original channel. The selected channel that was not deleted is left with it's original EPG settings (DVB EPG from the device it was originally scanned on).

So, if you merged the channels to a DVB-S channel, then it's EPG will come from DVB-S. If you merged the channels to a DVB-T channel, then it's EPG will come from DVB-T

So, if I'm reading that correctly, when you've got a merged set of channels, if it's taking the setting of the original channel that you merged into, the subsequent selection of an EPG "source" on the settings page isn't having any effect.
Is that correct? If so, would you have to de-merge the channels before changing the EPG source?

One channel has one EPG source. When you've merged channels, there is only one channel. It's EPG settings immediately after merging are whatever they were for the channel you choose to merge them to.

After that can go into the settings for that channel and change it's EPG setting, like changing to Schedules Direct or XMLTV or whatever etc. (and if it some later stage you decide to change back to 'DVB EPG' from None/XMLTV/ScheduleDirect, it'll set it to use the first device mapped to that channel)

If you did need unmerge a channel, just right click on it in the Settings->Channels screen, and select Unmerge.

Just to add to that, I checked what I had done. I had Channel 3 BBC4 HD on Satellite set for Freesat UK EPG source. I had channel 106 BBC4 HD on Terrestrial set for DVB UPG source.
I merged the Channel 106 onto channel 3 which displays the order I showed above and Freesat UK as the EPG source however, the EPG was definitely showing entries from the BBC4 HD terrestrial channel. I know this because it was showing the "BBC4 has moved" message instead of TV listings despite the fact the logs show:-

2018-01-28 04:32:26.754 [DEBUG][10] Skipping BBC FOUR HD. Not DVB EPG.

during the 05:30 scheduled OTA EPG update.
