Is there a way to manually create broadcast channels in the channel list that exist but may be too weak to pick up at the time an auto-search is initiated?
I can move the antenna around to get fringe channels but that activity also loses other channels.. depending on where I place the antenna, I get 25 - 30 channels out of 45 I know of, which ones I get (or lose) in channel search depends on antenna placement.

It can be done by editing the database file to add a channel. I use DB Browser for SQLite to view and edit the file. Two tables need to be edited, I don't recall the names but if you look around a bit, you'll see the pattern. You also need to know the physical channel, not the logical channel. The physical channel is the actual frequency that the tuner uses, the logical channel is what your TV shows as the channel. They may be the same, but can be different. The database file is in Users\Public\NPVR. Copy it to a different name before you work on it and be careful because it contains all your show names, pending recordings, etc.

I don't understand the problem. If you rescan you don't lose previously saved channels. However not sure how effective a pvr you will have manually changing the antenna.

If you're not up for editing the database directly, you should be able to go to your device, export the channels to an XML file, then add another channel by copying one of the existing ones and changing as needs, then importing the channels. Any existing ones won't be changed and the new one should be added.

Why not point two antennas in different directions and phase them together?
