Aspect Ratio Setting

I've been looking at this today, but haven't got to the bottom of it yet.

While playing, it's monitoring the video stream for special headers that let the application know the resolution and aspect ratio etc. This is present in other 4:3 videos I have, but not in yours for some reason. I'm looking into whether there is some other alternative header I should be monitoring for as well.

Is there a clue in the phrase "VHS tape player"?
