Hi . I've just purchased the android client.
My aim ( if possible) is to schedule recordings through the app when I'm not home (likely via 4g) using my Pixel phone ( my pc, with NextPVR is installed downstairs in my lounge).
I have the latest nextpvr for Windows installed with Kodi as the 'front end'. I have also check boxed on the NextPVR on my PC the ' allow remote access' option.
I am alas failing at the first hurdle - connecting to the server.
I suspect it is my lack of knowledge on these things, but I am entering what I think ( according to a Google search is my IP address beginning 212) and on the second line the password default which is 0000.
I get a can't connect message.
Intriguingly, on KODI under System information>Network, my IP address is shown as begining with 192. I've tried both just in case but still not connecting. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

The route from the Android device to the NextPVR server will be ... Android ... 4G network ... Internet ... router in yout home ... NextPVR server.

You will need to tell the router in your home to send traffic that is incoming from the Internet to the NextPVR port, 8866, on the IP of the NextPVR server ... probably 192.168.something.

The router may have settings titled DMZ to facilitate this.

How do I find the NextPVR server IP address?

There are at least three to use. Using IPv4 addresses is easier then IPv6 (but less secure against brute force script kiddies on the internet)

1. 127.0.0.1 for Kodi on the same machine as NextPVR is straight word

2. For local LAN the IP of your Windows PC for a new user in Win 10 on the start menu start typing "view your network properties" the ipv4 addess is typically the easiest to use. Determine if you have a wifi or wired connection to your router.

for long term use you want to set up a static IP

3. For remote access try a website like https://whatismyipaddress.com/

Note your provide typically does not give you a static IP

For 3 to work you need to read up on firewalls, configuring the DMZ on your router. I would not recommend exposing your PC unless you are comforatable with what you are doing.

Hi again and thanks for helping.
Am still struggling .
I can log into the web server on the PC that is hosting nextpvr fine just by typing localhost:8866 into MS Edge.
For access via my mobile, do I need to click whatsmyipaddress on my phone to get the IP and then figure out how to allow that address through my router to my pc ? If there is a step by step guide anywhere I am happy to follow that than keep you gents busy

The IP you enter in the app is the one shown yes. The router configuration will vary by router so no specific step by stem, usually you need to configure the DMZ in the the router to pass through to the IP you obtained using the second method above for port 8866.

You need to know two IPs.

WhatsmyIP will tell you the IP that your router is using to connect to the Internet. Use this IP on the phone to connect via the Internet.

On the Windows machine that is running NextPVR ... start a Command Prompt and enter the command IPCONFIG ... This will tell you the IP address that the Windows machine uses to connect to the router ... This is the IP that you need to enter into the DMZ settings (also known as ... port forwarding) in the router.

Using the command prompt and seeing all those numbers scroll can by tricky fore new users. I think my Win10 method is easier if you are running it.

General instructions for how to setup port forwarding for all sorts of routers can be found at https://portforward.com/. For NextPVR you're wanting to forward TCP port 8866 (from your router to the machine running NextPVR)
