Search EPG info by category/genre

I am looking at possible replacements in Win 10 after many years with Windows Media Centre under Win 7. WMC will display a list of all programs in the current EPG within a category and sub-category making it easy to choose what to record. Does NPVR currently offer similar functionality either in the main program or using an add-on? (I found one post about this but it's 4 years old and may be outdated).

V5 doesn't provide any way to create advanced searches on genres and the useful EPG highlighting by genre has not been implemented in the browser yet either.  sub doesn't provide any API access to the genre or cast and crew for advanced queries so addons can't really help at this point without going directly to the database.

Those features are in v4  if you need them.  v5 is an amazing amount of work, and I'm sure more features will get added over time based on sub's priority. 

This is one of Emby's strength though if you are considering options.

So just to be clear are you saying I could search by category and subcategory in v4? Would this be through an add-on? And what features would be missing that are now in v5 (just roughly, and bearing in mind I only need Win 10 compatibility)?

NextPVR doesn't have the notion of category and sub category but there were several ways of getting at the genres in v4, NEWA and SearchLite come to mind. As the author of SearchLite with advanced Genres support I can tell you that pretty much no one used it so I can understand why it isn't a priority for sub.

I would not recommend v4 to a new user, it's a dead end.

That's pretty much where my thinking has been - no one was asking for this, so it hasn't been a high priority.

I've added a Genre option to the search screen for the next build. (it wasn't a lot of effort - just no one had been asking for it)
