Thanks for trying to help Martin. As I said when I started this post I was trying to help an 80 year old senior citizen with an innovative idea. Use a pvr with her tv. The ota epg is ideal for her as she does not do online payments and all that fancy stuff we take for granted. A neighbour agreed to donate his used computer and I am donating a spare usb tuner. For my part seeing its a built in feature I just want to get it working.

I will try again with SUBS latest input.

It's not really though - it comes with all sorts of compromises and limitations. If the $25 a year for SD is too much, then I'd look at one of the xmltv alternatives, like zap2xml etc.

Hi Sub.  after the ver 5 success I circled back to see if I could ver 4 going just for the fun of it.

I followed your advice and went a little overboard too.. deleted the epg, deleted all the channels and deleted all the tuners... even hunted down hauppauge and updated the driver for this dual hd tuner.

I tried it first with just the first four channels we had been targeting 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4.  It worked and I got 9.5 hours of epg data for all these channels.  You were right about the missing tuner being the cause.

Then for another test I deleted the channels, rescanned the channels and ran the update epg again with all 38? channels defaulting to dvb/epg.  In this case the update ran fine at first... but 75% of the way through it suddenly crashed the npvr client.  It exited and I was staring at my desktop.  I restarted the v4 client and zipped the log files for you.  I noticed that I had epg data for the channels that were scanned and none for the ones after the crash.

I dont expect you to trouble shoot it but I though you might find the log useful.  Maybe its something obvious that can help with v5.  Lets call this case...closed.

Have a good day

Edward

Realistically, I'm not gonna bother looking into this with v4, since I'm not longer making patches for it.

Glad to hear you got it going under v5 though.
