linux external drive

I have been trying with no luck to get nextpvr to be able to access a usb hardrive to store recordings on.
I am a complete noob when it comes to linux.
Hoping someone could tell me exactly how i do this?
Just to note it is debian on a raspberry pi, and have tried some guides that get you to mount the drive, but just get told it is already mounted.

You will need to ensure that whatever drive you configure has the correct permissions https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid524823

Personally I would choose Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu, or LibreElec before basic Debian on the RPi.
